HISTORY OF NAGAOKA

1804 Established as a medicine wholesaler in present day Doshomachi, Osaka.
1889 Opened a Yokohama headquarters.
1892 Started manufacturing mentha.
1923 Yokohama headquarters was lost due to an earthquake. Moved headquarters to Kobe.
1924 Built a new mentha plant in Motoyama, Kobe.
1930 Built a ginseng plant in Hokkaido.
1932 Started producing ginseng and tanacetum cinerariifolium in Korea.
1945 Many stores suffered damage due to air raids during World War II.
1947 Established Nagaoka & Co., Ltd.
1949 Rebuilt the mentha plant in Motoyama, Kobe.
1956 Established a branch in Brazil.
1961 Started manufacturing and selling special menthol and mentha oil.
1962 Mentha oil shortage occurred in Japan. Started emergency imports.
1965 Japan Mentha Industry Association established. The fifth Nagaoka president became its first president.
1970 Mentha import liberalized.
1976 Brazilian production declined. Main mentha production moved to Paraguay.
1980 Mentha market stabilized due to Chinese mentha bought into the world market.
1991 Indian mentha production increased. Entered the world market.
1993 Built and moved to a new headquarters and plant in Nishinomiya-hama.
1995 Plant operation suspended for about a month and a half due to the Great  Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake.
2001 Menthol USP MF registered with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
2004 Nagaoka 200th anniversary.
Partnered with Jer Farms (currently Northwest Ingredients). Started to sell peppermint and spearmint oils.
Obtained ISO 14001 certification for environmental management.
2006 Received preliminary examination prior to application for approval with FDA.
2012 Mentha oil MF registered with FDA.
2013 Acquired Fluclet business (compatible with Windows 7 (registered trademark of Microsoft)). Started sales.
2015 Recognized by Nishinomiya Tax Office as a reliable tax payer.
2016 Partnered with Indukern in Spain. Became sales representative in Japan.
